Prime Lane was appointed to provide a full white‑glove service for the relocation of a heritage grandfather clock from a private residence in London to its new home in Surrey.
Rather than arranging third‑party transport, our own specialist team personally handled every stage of the move — from careful disassembly and protective wrapping to dedicated vehicle transport and final reassembly on site.

Our Approach
1. Pre-Move Assessment & Condition Review
Before any work began, Prime Lane conducted a full on‑site assessment, including:
- Measuring access routes, door widths, and staircase clearances
- Reviewing the clock's structural condition and identifying vulnerable joints
- Photographing and documenting the clock's current state for continuity
- Planning the safest disassembly sequence to avoid torsion or stress
This ensured that every stage of the move was predictable, controlled, and fully aligned with conservation best practice.
2. Controlled Disassembly of the Clock
Grandfather clocks must be dismantled in a precise order to avoid damage. Our team:
- Removed the hood using two‑person stabilised lifting
- Detached the pendulum, weights, and movement, securing each in padded, labelled containers
- Stabilised the trunk and base, protecting all exposed edges
- Used anti‑vibration mats to prevent micro‑movement during handling
Each component was isolated and packed individually to eliminate internal contact and vibration.
3. Protective Wrapping & Secure Loading
Instead of crating, the client opted for a premium blanket‑wrap service. We used:
- Thick, quilted removal blankets for all wooden surfaces
- Foam padding for the movement and pendulum
- Anti‑vibration floor protection inside the vehicle
- Soft‑strap securing to avoid pressure marks or compression
The clock was wrapped, padded, and loaded exclusively by Prime Lane personnel.

5. Reassemble at the New Location

- Reassembled the trunk, base, hood, movement, pendulum, and weights
- Levelled the clock to ensure correct operation
- Conducted a final stability and alignment check
The clock was left fully reassembled, stable, and ready for use.

The relocation was completed seamlessly, with the grandfather clock arriving in perfect condition and reassembled to its original stability and function.
