Chaos 1, 2024 - Pink Alabaster

Caroline's practice isn't about showcasing the raw material itself. Instead, she uses stone as a vessel for mythological worlds—stories filled with longing, identity, and transformation. By abstracting form, she shifts our attention away from stone's traditional associations and toward its expressive potential. Curves, folds, and subtle movements create what she calls “static movement”: a moment of tension or tenderness held perfectly still, inviting viewers to linger and interpret.

About The Artist

Her sculptural language is rooted in a diverse creative journey. Early work in toy design sharpened her understanding of construction, perspective, and colour. Later, while living in Hong Kong, she immersed herself in ceramics and completed two residencies in Jingdezhen, deepening her sense of volume and spatial rhythm. This foundation eventually led her to sculpture, where she earned consecutive distinctions at City & Guilds of London Art School.

Since graduating in 2024, Caroline's work has gained significant attention. She has exhibited at Bowman Sculpture Gallery, presented a solo show with the Crème Fraîche Program, and placed works in private collections across the US and UK.

Recent projects

One of her recent projects is a sculptural response to Frederic Leighton's The Return of Persephone (1891). Drawn to the emotional intensity between Demeter and Persephone, Caroline chose to imagine the moment just after Leighton's scene ends—the private instant when their embrace fully closes. Through lifted folds and protective curves, she explores themes of reunion, relief, and the quiet power of being held after a long period of uncertainty.

Caroline's work reminds us that stone, despite its ancient history, still has new stories to tell. Through abstraction, movement, and myth, she invites us to experience the material—and the emotions it can carry—in a completely new way.

Closing Reflection

Caroline's work reminds us that materials carry histories, but artists give them new futures. In her hands, stone becomes more than a physical substance—it becomes a language for emotion, myth, and human connection. By softening what is traditionally hard and animating what is naturally still, she opens a space where viewers can slow down, look closely, and feel their way into the work.

Her journey—from painting to ceramics to sculpture—shows how creative practices can evolve organically, each discipline adding another layer of understanding. And as her career continues to grow, it's clear that her voice is one that will keep expanding the possibilities of contemporary sculpture.

Caroline's pieces don't just reinterpret mythology; they invite us to consider our own stories of return, reunion, and transformation. In a world that often moves too quickly, her sculptures offer a moment of pause—a reminder that even in stillness, there is movement, meaning, and profound emotional depth.
